Many years ago, when I was just married and bought my first bedroom set, I fell in love with a queen size bookcase headboard. It was gray and had a sliding door on each end and a roomy shelf in the middle. We looked at many Queen Headboards, but I kept thinking of all that neat storage space on and inside that queen headboard. I ended up buying that set. At the time, I was also an Avon decanter collector. As my husband would finish one of the bottles of cologne, I would put the empty car on top of the headboard. I must have bought and collected about 10 of the “Avon Model Cars” decanters, and each was prominently displayed on top of the headboard. To this day, about 45 years later, I still remember my mom saying, she expected to read about a couple being run over by a fleet of cars, while a sleep in their bed.

The Road to Kandy
As we departed our resort, we hoped the comforts of Galle, such as the food, nice climate and in-room Delta Faucet would be emulated by our next stop in our tour of Sri Lanka, the ancient city of Kandy high up in the mountains. We took a very nice old train to Kandy via Colombo; it was as if the trains had not been replaced since being introduced by the British in the early twentieth century. We were lucky to get seats as we foolishly left during rush hour which made the entire situation interesting as people were forced to sit on the roof of the train, like you see in the movies. Well we arrived in Kandy, and it was a wonderful night with a strong breeze blowing and a feeling of lost civilization and we wandered around beside the lake that sits in the center of this lovely city.

I believe that the best decision that we made concerning childrens furniture was to get something durable that would be built to last. Children get into all sorts of trouble, and they can knock things over, so we wanted something that would withstand the meddling but also keep our kids safe should they start to move things around. Everything is pretty childproof, keeping away from sharp edges and so forth. We picked up a great toy chest for Marigold last week, and she loves it. It’s big and bulky enough that she won’t be able to move it herself, but it teaches her that there’s a specific place for all of her toys and that she should put them back in an orderly fashion so that they can all fit in the chest. Otherwise, she puts the lid down and it doesn’t stay down. This is a great lesson in general responsibility.
